I treated a friend of mine out for a meal for helping me move. He wanted to go to a buffet, it’s not my thing, but it was his treat after all so it’s his choice. When we got there, the place wasn’t going to open until one hour later, so I asked him if he could take me to Target because I needed to get a couple things. He recently purchased a new hybrid Nissan Altima (which is very niiice). I showed him the way to Target and I noticed that he was driving only 20 miles per hour. I ask him why was he driving SO slow and you know what he says?
“If I go over 20 mph my car starts using gas”
“So you’re just going to keep driving at 20 while everyone is zipping past you?”
“YES!”
And that’s exactly what he did. 20 mph all the way to Target… :???: LOL

When we arrive at Target, he notices that it’s right along the freeway and says,
“We could have taken the freeway this whole time?”
“Well I wasn’t sure if you wanted to take the freeway or surface streets. But if we had taken the freeway you would have had to use your gas…”
“Oh… yeah well it’s better that we took the surface streets then”
LOL

As we were leaving Target, he tells me that he has his laptop and books with him to take to the buffet. I thought he was joking when he told me he planned on staying there until they close. He wasn’t. So, I had him stop by my place so I could get some stuff to occupy myself with as well. WE ENDED UP SPENDING 4 HOURS AT THE BUFFET. At the beginning, he got some pudding and he liked it. Hours later, he grabs SEVEN puddings back to the table only to realize that he didn’t like it. According to him, they didn’t mix that batch well enough so it was nasty. It was definitely out of the ordinary for me and an adventure but I am NEVER doing that again!

Well, this weekend IKEA is having that special where they will deduct your bill at the cafeteria off a purchase of $100+ of furniture. There’s some furniture that I’ve been meaning to buy there but needed a second person to help me so I just invited him to take advantage of that offer. Will be interesting to see how much stuff he puts on his tray(s) LOL. To be continued!

Makeup photos from high school!

I found my old makeup pictures that I took while I was in high school. Everyday, I tried to wear a different look. I obviously don’t do that anymore because I really don’t have that kind of time to sit down every morning and think up of something new. I wouldn’t make a video on “makeup for teens” and do some simple neutral look because well… that’s not what I wore lol!

Most of these pictures were from when I was 16 or 17. I didn’t wear false lashes to school either, only for pictures. That pretty much still applies now as well. Some of these are really bad. My foundation didn’t match my body most of the time lol.

This was before I started experimenting with makeup. One of my friends gave me a smokey eye makeup pallete and I wore it to death! This is me freshman year. Not very much detail on the makeup but this is the only picture I could find  Poorly pigmented black eyeshadow swiped on the lids with Clinique liquid liner (was my fav) basically. I don’t think I even wore mascara?

This is what happens when your lashes are too long for your eye shape and you don’t cut them. The excess on the outer end makes the eyes look droopy!

This was my favorite look I did back then. Russian Red lipgloss :XO:

Me for Junior prom. I’m surprised my makeup looked alright in pictures because I had a deep shimmering gold for my highlight.

How I got into the online beauty community

I wrote about how I got into makeup, now I’m going to share with you guys how the whole online thing started. It all started with myspace, back when I was 16 when everyone had one and still used it. I was snooping around one of my friend’s groups and noticed some makeup group so I checked it out which led me to discover more makeup groups on myspace. I thought, “wow, people who love makeup just like me!” so I started to become involved with the groups. People would post their FOTDs and participate in challenges; monroemisfitmakeup was really involved with those and her looks always won through voting.

Around that time I was also using Bare Minerals and I also found a Bare Minerals group. I noticed that my face would feel like it’s burning or itchy by the afternoon and I first I thought it was because I wasn’t washing my face enough or something. I ended up asking the members on the myspace Bare Minerals group about it and they said that it was probably because I was allergic to the bismuth oxychloride in Bare Minerals, which I later found out to be pretty common. Then I expressed how bummed out I was because I had just bought a Bare Minerals set and barely used it. Someone then offered to buy it off me, I remember her name was pugmommy. She was older than me and I think she was pretty brave to send the money first and wait for a 16 year old stranger to send their end lol. I mean, there are people much older on makeupalley who are known for swaplifting. Anyway, she told me to make an account on makeupalley.com and specktra.com so she could give me feedback for her purchase. That was when I learned about the two sites and I started to become really involved on Specktra.

Specktra had a tutorial section where people would take step by step pictures of them applying their makeup and explaining out the details. I loved looking at them so I wanted to make one of my own because it seemed fun to do. As I was trying to do it though, I found it to be so time consuming and inconvenient to have to stop after each step and take pictures. I gave up on that. Then someone posted a youtube video on Specktra with a link to pursebuzz’s Barbie Loves MAC video. It was a totally new thing to see a makeup tutorial on video so everyone on Specktra was pretty amused by it. That’s when I looked up more videos on youtube and only found one monolidded girl through the search and I remember she was applying makeup with some Pussycat Dolls song playing. I don’t think she does videos currently and I don’t think her old videos are even still up.

I really wanted to try making my own video after that but the camera I had at the time would only film 5 minutes at a time so I couldn’t really do anything with it. I waited until I got a macbook with a built in webcam to record my first makeup video and post it on youtube. Those first videos are long gone, and it’s better that way since I was 17 at the time and just… bleh! After that, you can pretty much see what’s gone on since then.

How I got into makeup

My mother has always been pretty tolerant of me wearing makeup at any age. She’s the type of person who’s not afraid of wearing red lipstick, purple eyeshadow, or glittery pink lipgloss. I’ve had photos of myself when I was about 4 years old with red lipstick and a face covered in bright pink rouge!

I guess the first time I really used makeup on my own free will was during the tween years where almost about every other girl wore lipsmackers lip-balm, roller glosses (my favorite were from N.Y.C.!), and glitter gels smeared all over the face  I had a green tube from lip smackers and it smelled like kiwi :)

I started wearing makeup on a daily basis when I was in the seventh grade. My staple was liquid liner. My mom would actually help me in the morning to apply it! I also wore dark brown lip liner with plain lip gloss on top. Yes, the chola look. Hey, it’s not my fault! This was the look for the area and time I lived in, I was just doing what the other girls were doing lol.

I tried using foundation at the end of seventh grade. It was from Neutrogena and it smelled and felt disgusting. I didn’t need foundation at all. I only used it because my best friend wears it and I wanted to be like her or something lol. That really put me off of liquid foundations. I tried wearing foundation again junior year when Sephora first started carrying Bare Minerals. Then I moved on to Everyday Minerals. Only until about a year ago did I try liquid foundation again which I like. I only wear Make Up For Ever foundations. They’re great!

I started getting creative with my makeup thanks to this one event. Ulta once had a buy one get one free sale on URBAN DECAY!!! It was awesome. It was the first and only time that’s ever happened. This was in 2005. Being the teen that I was, I was always drawn to Urban Decay products because of their edgy packaging and fun colours. I bought A TON of products! Probably $200 worth. Urban Decay was a bit cheaper then too. Each shadow ended up being about $7 after the BOGO. I’ve always waited for that sale again, but I heard that’s it’s never going to happen because it didn’t do as well as Ulta or Urban Decay hoped it would.

So I would say that I actually started off with Urban Decay rather than MAC as most people in the online beauty community are. Urban Decay always has a special place in my heart. I’ll forever be an UD girl! Most of my eyeshadows are probably from Urban Decay and I love love love their liquid liners!

I got into MAC when I started driving at 16. Honestly, I liked shopping at Sephora rather than department stores because I liked the more casual atmosphere. I didn’t like having to deal with an associate or artist one to one. I was especially intimidated by the MAC counter. My balls finally dropped and I bought my first MAC products! My first lipsticks were high tea and freckletone, my first eyeshadow was beauty marked, and my first lipgloss was c-thru. For a while, I was using only MAC because I found out that some of the shadows I bought were exact dupes to some UD shadows I had. I wanted to be exclusive to one brand so that I can remember what colours I owned. Now though, I use UD again because I am better at remembering what I own regardless of brand.

In high school, I wore bold and bright makeup or full blown smokey black panda eyes. I honestly was in my own little world and had no idea that a stripper smokey eye wasn’t appropriate for school. I just wore what I wanted! I came to the realization that I couldn’t wear whatever bold makeup I wanted when I started college. That was the first time I practiced how to do “neutral” looks. I’ve never worn them. Prior to that, it was all drama baby!

I like using MAC the most because of the price for quality. Compared to other high end brands, MAC is inexpensive. They have a wide range of colours, finishes, and products suitable for anyone. I also like that I can get a free lipstick, gloss, or shadow if I have six empty recyclable MAC containers. This is why I like MAC a bit more than Urban Decay. Urban Decay is a bit more expensive and they don’t have a program like b2m where you get a free product. Another one of my favorite brands is Make Up For Ever which is only available at Sephora in the states as of now. Their foundations are fantastic and all their products are pro quality. I have a bit of NARS as well. Their glosses are my favorite and their blushes are nice as well. My collection consists of mostly MAC, Urban Decay, and NARS with other brands here and there.
